Cara Sato-Connell ’27 recently received both Silver and Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award medals, in recognition of her more than 100 hours of volunteer service.

Convocation 2024 set an energized and inspiring tone for the year, as GFA once again brought its community together with a sense of purpose, curiosity, and connection.

This September, four GFA Alumni were selected among Fairfield County’s "Top Teens", an annual Moffly Publications series for their Westport, Weston & Wilton, Greenwich, New Canaan, Darien + Rowayton, and Stamford magazines.

As the daughter of Haitian immigrants, including GFA former faculty member Claudette Pinede, Nadine Pinede has achieved remarkable milestones, from earning a doctorate in the philosophy of education to becoming the first Rhodes Scholar of Haitian descent. Her debut young adult novel, When the Mapou Sings, will be published in December.

Serra Nalbantoglu ‘25 and Beatrice Schlein ‘25 have been named Semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Competition. They will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for a National Merit Scholarship next spring. 

Last week, a cohort of GFA faculty were hard at work during our Civil Discourse Summer Institute. This initiative, led by the Civil Discourse Committee—a subgroup of our larger Academic Committee—aimed to weave the principles of civil discourse into GFA’s daily practices, promoting a culture of respectful dialogue and understanding

The 2023–24 GFA Fund, the school’s annual immediate-use fund, raised $2,988,681—the highest total in school history. This is the sixth consecutive year that the Fund has established a new record.

Combining their enthusiasm for community and nature, 20 lower school families spent a midsummer morning at the Sherwood Island Nature Center.
