Sixth-Grade Writing Finalists

Sixth-Grade Writing Finalists

For the fourth year in a row, sixth grade students wrote a series of reviews in their English classes. These assignments allowed them to explore elements of persuasive writing, the act of including detail and description, and development of a unique writerly voice.

At the end of the unit, each class voted on a semi-finalist; those reviews, which were written by Fiona, Abdallah, Elle, and Cora, were sent to our celebrity judge, Mr. Kirk Meyer (NBC Sports), who chose a runner-up and a winner.

Of the semi-finalists, Kirk said, "What an impressive group of entries. I think my favorite thing about them on the whole is how each writer's voice really shone through in their writing and all four entries have distinct voices and style."

While Kirk noted that “this was an impossible decision…and a phenomenal group of entries,” he was able to narrow down his choices.

Congratulations to all four semi-finalists and to this year’s runner-up (Elle, “Isabelle et Vincent”) and winner (Cora, “CoComelon”).
