Last weekend, members of the varsity Quiz Team, Oliver Kennon ('21), Antara Singh-Ghai ('22), and AJ Tenser ('23), along with recent alum Annabel Roth ('20), competed in the National History Bowl, which had been canceled last spring. The team finished with an overall record of 5-5.
Coach Jon Matte said, "Going 5-5 constitutes a successful weekend in the Quiz Team world. In my opinion, any time you can finish at .500 in a National Tournament, you have done yourselves proud."
This marked GFA's 11th consecutive year at the National History Bowl, a statistic to which only one other team in the country can lay claim.
Even with many activities this year being canceled, the GFA Quiz Team train has rolled along since September, having competed in numerous virtual events: the Long Island Quiz Bowl Alliance in September (finishing at .500), the Westchester WACKO tournament in October (finishing at .500), the 3-2-1 QUnlimited tournament (finishing in the top half), and three versions of the COVID Challenge, also finishing in the top half of participating schools.
