Green Farms Academy was recently chosen by Connecticut Food Bank as the 2019 School Volunteer Group of the Year. Throughout the last year, GFA students and staff accumulated more than 320 service hours from more than 104 volunteers.
According to GFA Community Service Coordinator Sue Wilchinski, Middle and Upper School volunteer groups have been working to address the food crisis in Connecticut since 2017. They have volunteered at the Connecticut Food Bank locations in Wallingford, Fairfield, and Bridgeport.
“It was such an honor to receive the 2019 Volunteer Award from the Connecticut Food Bank,” she said. “It has truly been a blessing to be able to contribute whatever time we can give to helping the organizations who feed the most vulnerable of our state's communities.”
In an email congratulating Wilchinski and the students, Connecticut Food Bank Volunteer Manager Delores Wisdom said, “Thanks again to you, Sue, and all students and staff of Green Farms Academy for all your support over the years.”
