John Wood, Jr., a national ambassador for Braver Angels, a non-profit working to restore civic trust and bridge the conversational divide between the left and the right, will join the GFA community on October 21 for a day of thoughtful discussion.
In a decade marked by increasing political polarization and division, communities and families routinely find themselves struggling when it comes to navigating political or ideological differences. Preparing young people to lead lives of purpose requires the thoughtful cultivation of communication and listening skills that will enable students to more effectively exchange ideas, listen respectfully, and engage in difficult conversations — competencies that will serve them well in school and throughout their lives. To that end, John Wood, Jr. will explore the constructive culture of civil discourse and empathy-building in virtual assemblies with our Middle and Upper School students, run a workshop with our deans and a virtual address the parent community on October 21 at 7 p.m.
