Boys varsity soccer coach Chris Mira and his 2017-18 team received a Team Ethics Award of Merit from United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA). The award recognizes "teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior, and adherence to the laws of the game," according to the organization.
Mira was awarded the Silver designation, indicating that his team received no red cards during the season, and between 11-30% of yellow cards*.
"It's an honor to receive that recognition, and of course the whole team shares this award," Mira said. "Sportsmanship and character are high priorities for our team, and are just as important as any other facet of the game."
*According to the United Soccer Coaches website, "the percentage formula is the number of cards accumulated divided by the number of games played (i.e., 5 cards divided by 20 games played is 0.25 or 25%, which qualifies for a Silver Award).
