Mira Named CT Coach of The Year For Boys Soccer

The awards keep pouring in for the Greens Farms Academy boys soccer team.

After winning the program’s first-ever New England Prep School championship in November, the latest honor to be bestowed upon the Dragons came this weekend as head coach Chris Mira was named the 2022 Connecticut High School Soccer Coaches Association’s Prep School (Small School Division) Coach of the Year.

Also honored were GFA players Matvey Timashev, Matt Maged and Harry Harmston, each of whom were selected as All-State players.

After starting the season 4-6-1, the Dragons caught fire late in the season, winning seven on their last 10 and tying twice. (They had one loss in that span—In this year’s FAA championship game.

In the New England Class C tournament, GFA bested Pingree (1-1, 4-2 in penalty kicks); Millbrook School (3-2); and Vermont Academy (1-1, 6-5 PKs) to win the regional title.

Mira just finished his 16th year as boys varsity soccer coach at GFA. This is the third time he has been honored as the Coach of the Year.

Over that span, his teams have won multiple FAA regular season championships and an FAA tournament title, too.

Under Mira, GFA has won multiple WNEPSSA Class C championships and Sportsmanship Awards as well as a Team Academic Award and Ethics Award of Merit from the United Soccer Coaches.

After graduating from Southern Connecticut State University, where he helped lead the Owls to the NCAA Division 2 championship game, Coach Mira played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

He has served as coach and technical director at multiple youth clubs over this career, as well.

Mira is also the school’s varsity golf coach and has coached middle school basketball and ice hockey at GFA.
