About Liz Schuellein
Coach Liz Schuellein is entering her eighth season as head field coach at GFA.
Liz received a Bachelor of Science from Springfield College majoring in Physical Education while competing on the Field Hockey team. As a 4-year starter, her team had one appearance in the NCAA D3 tournament, and she was a captain her senior season. She taught PE in the Farmington School District while working at Trinity College as an Assistant Field Hockey Coach. Liz went on to earn a Master of Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Administration from Springfield as an assistant coach. Liz became the Head Field Hockey Coach at Saint Francis University. After developing a young D1 program for 4 seasons, she was named NEC Coach of the Year.
Eager to return to high school athletics, she was excited for the opportunity to join the GFA coaching staff in 2016 as the varsity field hockey Head Coach. In seven seasons the Field Hockey team has seen quick success as they have 4 FAA Conference semifinal appearances, 1 New England Class C Prep School semi final appearances, 3 quarter finals appearances and were named 2021 Western New England Prep School Champions in Class C! Joining the Field Hockey Club of CT in its inaugural season in 2016, she has helped grow the U12 and U14 divisions over the last 6 years participating in several top showcases and coaching the first U14 team to participate in the National Club Championship this summer! Liz is also an active member of NFHCA, USA Field Hockey and is a Level 1 Certified Coach.
In 2019 she happily joined the Physical Education and Athletics staff, as the Assistant to the Athletic Directors. Liz teaches PreK and 4th Grade PE as well as Directing the MS Field Hockey program. Outside of GFA, Liz enjoys spending time with her husband and dogs Cali and Brooklyn, cooking, and visiting Colorado any chance she gets!
