The Dragons opened their season with a convincing 7-0 home win against King.
Sisters Sadie and Hazel Hempleman combined to make two saves in goal to notch the shutout. Goals were scored by Lanie Campisi (3), Gabriella Glyphis (2), Devin Lee and Sam Gottlieb.
GFA had a 20-2 edge in shots and an 18-2 advantage in penalty corners.
The Dragons lost their season opener to the defending undefeated FAA and NEPSAC champion King in straight sets 25-19, 25-15, 25-15, in a contest that produced some good long rallies.
Kiara Copeland led the Dragons in both digs (7) and aces (6). Eliza Legnani had five kills and Logan Penske had 12 assists.
The Dragons battled Hopkins tough at home before falling 18-25, 25-23, 15-17. Rose Karlan played strong defense and had six kills over the first two sets. Ayesha Roy had a handful of aces, as well.
Eight different Dragons notched a point in the game, a season-opening win over Harvey.
Jared Buckman (1 assist), Sawyer Bacro (1 assist) and Alex Thiersaint scored two goals each for GFA. Jackson McBean had a goal and an assist while Manny Bishay and Owen Potack tallied single goals. Casey Blattman chipped in with an assist.
The Dragons opened the season with an 8-1 win over Pomfret at home.
Lanie Campisi netted four goals to lead the way while Grace Almeida had three goals and two assists. Zoe Laferriere added a tally while Lolade Oshin had three assists. Cate LaFreniere and Livia Orenstein added individual assists, as well.
In goal, Ellie Rosen made six saves while Izzy Kittredge had four saves and Ava Blue had a defensive save, as well.
GFA had a 31-12 advantage in shots and a 17-4 3dge in penalty corners.
The Dragons moved to 2-0 on the season with a 4-0 win over Greenwich Country Day School.
Ciara Kuryla scored two goals while Mallie Wilderman had a goal and an assist. Anika Vaidheeswaren also scored while Hazel Hampleman notched three assists.
Lolade Oshin earned the shutout in her first shutout in goal. She had 8 saves.
GFA had an 11-0 edge in corners and a 27-8 advantage in shots.

The Dragons got goals from the Almeida sisters, Grace and Caroline, and another one from Lolade Oshin in a 3-2 win over Nichols School of New York.
Grace Almeida and Camryn Blessey recorded assists. Ellie Rosen made 7 saves on 10 shots while Izzy Kittredge tallied 7 saves on 8 shots for GFA, which had a 27-16 advantage in shots and a 14-4 edge in penalty corners.

Four different goal scorers led the Dragons to a 4-3 win over St. Paul VI Catholic.
Zoe Laferriere, Grace Almeida, Lolade Oshin and Caroline Almeida found the cage for GFA. Grace Almeida had two assists while Lanie Campisi and Livia Orenstein also set up goals.
Izzy Kittredge (11 saves) and Ellis Rosen (2 saves) combined to backstop the win.
The Dragons erupted for five goals in the second half to turn a one-goal lead at halftime into a big road win at Holy Child.
Fiona Curis scored twice to lead the GFA attack. Maddie DiNatali, Lauren DeLaurentiis, and Ella Cahill had a goal and an assist each for GFA. Sydney Laforce also scored while Marguerite Foster and Elise McCormick had assists.
Mae Morelli and Izzy Grimm combined to make eight saves.
Grace Almeida scored three goals and assisted on three others to lead the Dragons to the win.

Kate Ewing had 16 kills and two blocks, Eliza Legnani had 16 kills and 6 digs, Kiara Copeland had 11 kills and 7 digs, and Logan Penske had 37 assists.
Allegra Paquette (3 assists) and Sadie Tamburri (1 assist) both scored three goals each to lead the Dragons to the win. Lulu Sparkman, Skye Hord and Valentina Cano (1 assist) also scored for the Dragons. Lilah Tuvlin and Addison Ahern also had assists.
Ali Tamayo scored twice to lead the Dragons to the home win over Hopkins.
Lauren DeLaurentiis scored one goal and assisted on two others while Maddie DiNatali had a goal and an assist, as well. Fiona Curis and Piper Rothman had single goals.
Isabella Grimm and Clzire Silverman combined for three saves.

Izzy Kittredge made 16 saves in the second half for GFA while Ellie Rosen had six saves in the opening half. Ava Blue and Greer Weiland both had three defensive saves each, as well.
On Saturday, the GFA Boys Varsity Soccer team took on the St. Andrew’s Saints from Rhode Island for our annual Homecoming game.
The game started out tight with Ian Hoffman and Sawyer Bacro (from Jared Buckman) each adding a goal to the board. The defense stayed strong, keeping it to 2-2 at the end of the first half. However, St. Andrew’s came out of the halftime huddle hot, scoring twice early.
Sawyer Bacro was able to score one for the Dragons cutting their two-shot lead to only one, but it wasn’t enough and the Dragons fell short, 5-3. The team had hoped for a better Homecoming result, but it is still early in the season.
The Dragons defeated visiting Millbrook 25-14, 25-11, 24-26, 25-18.
Jules Blue had 15 assists and two aces while Kate Ewing led the way with 12 kills and four aces. Kiara Copeland added 10 kills, 5 digs and four aces while Eliza Legnani tallied 8 digs, 8 kills and 4 aces. Logan Penske also had 25 assists and 6 aces.
The last day of September brought the GFA Boys Varsity Soccer Dragons home to host the Hamden Hall Hornets. The Dragons scored early, with Jackson McBean scoring the opening goal, assisted by Manny Bishay, followed by a second from McBean to Jared Buckman.
Oscar Nelson made several crucial saves, keeping the Dragons solid defensively. Alex Thiersaint added another goal, calmly set up by Buckman, and freshman Casey Blattman closed the first half with a fourth, bringing the halftime score to 4-0.
The second half saw the freshman on the squad take control, cheered on by the upperclassmen from the sidelines. Gordon Fatherley tapped in an early goal, followed by an own goal from Jacob Jones. Franco Moha capped off the win with a goal at the 10-minute mark, assisted by a fellow freshman. The juniors and sophomores contributed equally to the team's dominant effort, limiting Hamden Hall to just one goal.
The Dragons walk away with an important FAA League victory. The team heads to Millbrook on Wednesday, looking to keep their positive momentum going.

Kate Ewing had 12 kills and 10 aces to lead the way. Eliza Legnani added 9 kills and 7 digs while Kiara Copeland had 6 kills and Maddie Stevens had 5 kills.
Jared Buckman (from Jack Meyer) and Aidan Spellacy (from Sawyer Bacro) netted the goals as the GFA made the tough road trip to Millbrook School in New York and came away with a tie.

The Dragons fell on the road by a score of 19-25, 25-22, 24-26, 19-25.
Kate Ewing had 19 kills and 14 digs while Eliza Legnani had 10 kills and 9 digs. Maddie Stevens chipped in with 7 kills and Logan Penske had 34 assists.
After some traffic and highway construction troubles, the GFA and Rye Country Day Boys’ Varsity Soccer teams got off to a late start on Thursday night. Kicking off at 5:05, the Wildcats quickly scored, taking an early 1-0 lead.
With 7 minutes left in the first half, No. 7 for the Dragons, Jackson McBean, tied the game.
A brief five-minute intermission followed as the teams aimed to complete the required minimum 70 minutes before dark. Daylight wasn’t a problem, as the GFA Dragons comfortably defeated the RCDS Wildcats 4-1, scoring three goals in the second half from McBean, Sawyer Bacro, and Jared Buckman.
It was a special night for our seniors, both on and off the field, who were later honored in a post-game ceremony for their contributions to the GFA BVS legacy.
This was the Dragons’ last regular season home game and plan to carry their positive momentum into their final few games on the road.
