Greens Farms Academy celebrated another Spring Sports Saturday last month.
From the Dragon Dash to the youth lacrosse clinic to our Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis teams capping the day with victories, it was yet another banner day in celebration of the community, the students, and the school.
The day began with the Dragon Dash, a 5K race conducted by the Parents Association, with all proceeds benefiting Horizons GFA and Komera, the school’s student-led community service club. More than 130 runners and walkers took part in the 5-kilometer event. Tommy Ross of New York City won the race in 16 minutes, 19 seconds.
GFA eighth grader Max Goralski was the first GFA student to finish, placing 11th overall in 21:07.
Soon after, dozens of GFA’s Lower School students were treated to a youth lacrosse clinic overseen by both the Boys and Girls Varsity teams.
Four squads were on campus for home games, including Girls Varsity Lacrosse (vs. Greenwich Academy), Varsity Baseball (vs. Brunswick), Boys Varsity Tennis (vs. Greenwich Country Day) and Girls Varsity Tennis (vs. Canterbury).
It was the Dragons tennis squads that notched the wins as both teams posted 6-1 victories.
After finishing off a prior delayed match, the Dragons boys team defeated GCDS. In doubles action, Coleman Merce and Joe Lublinsky won by an 8-0 count while Jack Blitzer and Will Moody took an 8-4 win. In singles play, the Dragons swept as Merce (6-2, 6-0), Lublinsky (6-2, 6-0), Blitzer (6-1, 6-2) and Jamie Davis (6-4, 7-6 [7-4]) all won.
In the girls match that followed, the Dragons also dropped one match and ran the table beyond that.
Viola Cullen (6-1, 6-0), Ines Miranda Bembibre (6-4, 7-6 [7-4]) and Lohanna Costa (6-2, 6-0) all won points in singles play before the Dragons swept the doubles. The teams Devin McCormack/Lucy Fogel won 6-4, 6-1; Claire Silverman/Emme Galaburda won 6-1, 6-0, and Clara Guettel/Cara Sato-Connell won by a 6-0, 6-1 tally.
GFA students also put together a huge community service effort benefitting PAWS of Norwalk and Pink Aid, with more than $2,500 raised to support underserved breast cancer patients in our area.
Additionally, friends and families helped to collect sports equipment for underserved children in Bridgeport.
