Greens Farms Academy student-athlete Gavin Marshall ’24 announced recently that he has committed to compete for the University of Pennsylvania rowing team starting in the fall.

Marshall is one of eight GFA student-athletes to announce his intentions to play a Division-I school during the school’s recent commitment ceremony.

"When I visited Penn in September, I instantly felt like I belonged on the rowing team, and I couldn't turn down the opportunity to study there," Marshall said. "I can tell the team will see a lot of success in the coming years and I'm very excited to be a part of it."

Marshall competes for the highly competitive Saugatuck Rowing Club, competing in an 8+ Junior boat has seen its share of success this fall.

“Gavin is one of the most determined rowers I've coached. His personality and extra effort are contagious,” said David Grossman, who is Director of Rowing and Head Junior Boys Coach at Saugatuck. “It's a privilege to coach Gavin. I can't wait for him to continue his success as a lightweight at UPenn. We are going to miss Gavin and the whole senior class. Their hard work hasn't gone unnoticed, and the team is so much faster because of them.”

Last year, Penn’s Lightweight Rowing team won the National Collegiate Lightweight Invitational, the Matthews Trophy and Leonard Cup with wins over Cornell and Harvard, and the Callow Cup with a win over Navy.

At the EARC Sprint Championships the boat placed fourth overall and at the IRA National Championships it placed third overall.
