Eight members of the Greens Farms Academy field hockey program were celebrated recently as these Dragons were named to the 2023 National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s National Academic Squad.
Those GFA student-athletes feted include: Grace Almeida, Ava Blue, Ava Consla, Lilly Hogan, Ellie Rosen, Izzy Kittredge, Livia Orenstein and Francesca Sullivan.
Almeida, Blue, Consla and Hogan were considered Scholars of Distinction.
The NFHCA National Academic Squad program honors junior and senior high school student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year. Those honored as Scholars of Distinction have achieved a minimum cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.9 out of 4.0 through the first semester of the current academic year.
"We continue to be so proud of the work the team is putting in on and off the field," GFA field hockey coach Liz Schuellein said. "Academics are at the forefront here and the girls did amazing."
In the classroom, the GFA field hockey grade point average was 3.77, according to the coach.
Senior captains Sullivan and Hogan were named to the NFHCA Senior Impact Team for their work on and off the field, as well, according to the coach.
On the field, the Dragons went 15-5-1 this season, reaching the FAA semifinals and the New England Class C championship game.
