On the soccer field and in the classroom, Greens Farms Academy senior Ella Conopask has proven she as what it takes to succeed.

As such, nobody was surprised when she committed to play her chosen sport of soccer at the next level. Earlier this year, Conopask announced she would be attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and playing soccer for the Engineers.

Conopask was one of 12 Dragon student-athletes feted on Wednesday, March 6, during the school’s annual Spring College Commitment ceremony held inside the Coyle Gym. Those 12 coupled with eight Dragons who committed during the National Letter of Intent signing period in the fall brings the school’s total to 20 different GFA athletes playing in college come fall.

“I picked MIT because of its amazing computer science and soccer programs and also to be in Boston with my older brother,” Conopask said. “I am so excited to continue my academic and athletic career at MIT and am so grateful to my parents, coaches and friends who helped me along the way.”

From the day she arrived on campus at GFA, Conopask has been a key player for the Dragons.

She began her career in the back, helping the program become one of most staunch defensive teams in the Fairchester Athletic Association.

Her junior season, Conopask helped lead the Dragons to the FAA championship. This past season, Conopask moved up to the midfield and dominated the field as the liason between the back and the forward line.

This season, the Dragons won their first-ever New England Prep School Class C championship.

GFA coach Andrew Henry knows Conopask has all the tools to shine at MIT.

“Ella made herself into an indispensable player during her career at GFA,” Henry said. “I’m certain with the right coaching combined with her work ethic and talent, she’ll thrive at MIT.”
