Two Greens Farms Academy students — sophomore Azra Ozgen and freshman Julia Stidolph — have been honored by Connecticut Swimming as 2021 “Top 16 Swimmers” for their performances over the 2020-21 season.
Ozgen swims for the Westport Weston YMCA Water Rats swim team while Stidolph competes for Zeus Swimming out of Norwalk.
Both swimmers were honored in the 200 butterfly at the 13U level.
Ozgen impresses her coach, Ellen Johnston, every time she hits the pool.
"Azra has a tremendous work ethic and a strong commitment to being the best she can be," Johnston said. "She attends every practice offered – before and after school – as she strives to achieve her goals. I consider her a quiet warrior and look forward to seeing where she continues to improve. Azra is a true joy to coach and it’s great to see her get the recognition she has earned.”
Stidolph has been swimming for Zeus since she was seven years old and her club coach said her hard work in the sports continues to pay off.
“Julia is an incredibly hard worker and extremely committed to her successes in and out of the pool,” Zeus head coach Dennis Flores said.
Stidolph has placed in the Top 16 in multiple events in every age group category since the age of 9 years old, Flores said. She has been a Connecticut Age Group Championship qualifier in multiple events, a Connecticut Senior Championships Qualifier; has qualified for the Eastern Age Group Zones, and most recently qualified for Eastern Senior Zones, as well. At Eastern Senior Zones, as one of the youngest athletes at the swim meet, she swam multiple events but it was in the 200 Fly where she placed 19th overall. Her time achieved placed her 64th overall, in her age group in the country.
