Longtime Greens Farms Academy boys varsity soccer coach Chris Mira has been named the Connecticut Prep School Coach of the Year.

Mira was announced as this year’s winner during the Connecticut State Soccer Coaches Association All-State Banquet this weekend.

“I'm honored and elated for a number of reasons,” Mira said. “Receiving this award is a complement to our entire program, especially the character of our team. Their focus, resilience, and determination throughout the season made it possible.”

Coming into this past fall season, GFA had lost 13 seniors from a squad that went 12-5-4 and qualified for both the FAA and New England Class C tournament.

With a pair of new goalies and more than half the starters stepping into new roles, GFA went 8-4-3 during the regular season, again qualifying for both league and regional postseason tournaments.

"Chris Mira has been a long time coach, educator and mentor and has influenced many of our soccer players and student athletes," GFA athletic director Tauni Butterfield said. "The athletic staff would like to congratulate him on this amazing honor and we look forward to continued growth in the future under his leadership."

Mira was also honored with the award in 2012.

Also, during the banquet, three Dragons—Charlie Benson, Max Yates and Jack Ramsay—were honored as All-State players for the 2018 season.

GFA was honored for its 2018 CT Prep School Class S championship.
