Five Greens Farms Academy soccer players, three boys and two girls, earned All-State nods this week from the Connecticut High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Senior Shealeigh Crombie, juniors Oscar Edelman and Matvey Timashev, sophomore Harry Harmston and freshman Sofia Atehortua were honored for their respective seasons in which all the players helped their teams to the FAA tournament and New England Class C semifinals.
Crombie was a defensive stalwart on the GFA girls soccer team that went 17-4-2 this season and gave up less than one goal a game with 11 shutouts. She was also an All-FAA First Team choice.
Edelman, likewise, was a defensive presence for the GFA boys squad, which finished 10-5-4. But 6-foot-6 backstop also had a knack for finding the net on set pieces, finishing with five goals and two assists on the season.
Timashev was a key cog in the center backfield position for the Dragons, dominating the defensive box in front of his goalies and using his big right foot as a threat on long direct kicks.
Harmston was GFA’s leading scorer on the boys side, scoring 13 goals and assisting on 9 others for the Dragons.
Atehortua rewrote the GFA girls soccer record book this season, scoring a school record 36 goals en route to earning All-FAA honors, as well.
