This month, our fourth-grade students embarked on a unique and tasty mathematical adventure —The Dragon Den Bake-Off. The challenge? To use their math skills to design and bake cookies that would be a part of a cooking competition. Fourth-grade lead teacher, Manny Lalonde observed a notable increase in enthusiasm from the outset. "Students became increasingly engaged and eager to apply their knowledge on measurements, fractions, money, and proportions in a baking setting," he said.

20 Lower School students and families gathered at the Bridgeport Rescue Mission to learn about food insecurity and to work together to stock the food pantry shelves. The Lower School students and families were eager to learn and help their community!
The poet Terrance Hayes, winner of the National Book Award and a MacArthur "genius grant," will visit GFA on February 22-23, joining a long line of distinguished authors and poets who have participated in the school’s Visiting Writers program.
During his visit with the GFA community, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels spoke frequently about destiny, particularly highlighting how our campus, our building, was destined to be a school. He said this building was not just any building, not another office or department store, but was destined to be a school for learning. Reflecting on his time with us, it becomes evident that this visit might serve as an origin story for many of our own students.
On Wednesday February 7, our parent community hosted an insightful book discussion on Jennifer Wallace's "Never Enough." Open to parents across all three divisions, the small workshops were guided by Meghan Chew, Director of Excellence in Teaching, Jackie Woods, Middle School Counselor, and Jodi Kupersmith, Director of Learning Support.
Aria Brown has qualified for national fencing tournament in three catagories.
The Dragonoids have been busy this term building new robots to compete in regional tournaments. They learned how to strategize to get the most out of the bots and gain points. In a tournament on December 2 the team competed amid 58 teams from New England.
Two Advanced Theory students, Peter and Brian, have been learning musical pieces at GFA for years. The Upper School Winter Concert provided them the opportunity to write and perform music of their own.
