The poet Terrance Hayes, winner of the National Book Award and a MacArthur "genius grant," will visit GFA on February 22-23, joining a long line of distinguished authors and poets who have participated in the school’s Visiting Writers program. Many students in their English classes are currently reading, discussing, and imitating his work. Several of these students led an assembly last week to prepare the community for his visit. Ninth graders recited a number of his poems which they have been exploring in English classes and upper class students read their original poems which were inspired by Hayes’ work. During his visit, he will address an Upper School assembly, visit English classes, lead workshops, and meet with students.
