Four New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Added to GFA Parking Lot

If you’ve paid any attention to the parking lot recently, you might have seen the four new electric vehicle chargers neatly lined up in a row. I took some time to sit down and talk with Mr. Thomas Barry, the head of the Grounds Crew here at GFA, to learn more about the chargers and some of the benefits that come with having them.

“I’d say they serve as a resource, both literally and as a learning tool or an inspiration. It's great to have access to these chargers because normally these facilities require paying money to use them. Fortunately, they are free of charge for students and faculty here at GFA, and hopefully, that can inspire people to use their EV’s more. To me, it's a small step in the right direction - promoting more sustainable options in our community. Hopefully, people will see the chargers the same way, as a reminder that we can always improve our impact on our environment, and use them if applicable. The main benefit of going electric is the zero emissions of gas, and having the facilities to encourage that can mean a lot, especially to a community that tries constantly to think sustainably.”

This new system is also incredibly power efficient and technologically advanced. We are able to monitor and keep track of the energy used, as well as the gas emissions we have saved from going into the atmosphere by charging an electric vehicle. So far?

If you have an electric vehicle, make sure to download the Chargepoint App and create your account to be able to take advantage of the chargers here! Again, they are free of charge and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
