DC: Day 1

DC: Day 1
Eighth Graders in DC

By Katherine and Lacey ’26

Day one was a success! We started off bright and early this morning with a long trip on the double-decker bus. After arriving at GFA around 6:45 a.m., we all shared our excitement on the courtyard talking about what the day is going to bring. Eventually, we settled on the bus and got going to DC! We spent a few hours on the bus playing cards, sleeping, and reading until we stopped at the Delaware rest stop. We were able to get all sorts of food including Starbucks, Burger King, and Pret a Manger etc. After spending around 20 minutes in at the rest stop, we hopped back on the bus and embarked on the last leg of our journey.

It had been a long day of travel when we stepped out of the bus at the Arlington National Cemetery. Despite the aggressively hot whether everyone in the grade persisted with a high spirit and good attitude. Once we left the cemetery, we had some snacks on the bus on the way to the WWII Museum. Although the itinerary had planned for us to stop at the FDR memorial, we all unanimously decided to skip it due to the heat and head go later in the trip. We enjoyed our time at the MLK memorial and walked around to read the quotes and take photos in front of the gorgeous view.

We then started to head to the hotel all excited to see what our room assignments would be. Everyone freshened up and got ready for our yummy dinner at Sigon Sigon. It is safe to say that we all enjoyed our dinner as well as the ice cream in the park. We ended the day with a high energy walk back to the hotel with all of our classmates. We can’t wait to see what is in store for day 2!
