Greens Farms Academy announced this week that the 2017 commencement speaker will be Geoffrey Canada, the founder and president of the Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ). Canada has worked with HCZ for more than 30 years, and is respected worldwide for his work with children and families. As a thought-leader and advocate for education reform, he has been recognized by Time magazine as one of its 100 most influential people (2011), and Fortune magazine as one of the 50 greatest leaders in the world (March 2014).

Due to limited sign-ups, the Komera Club has decided to postpone the Komera Run (set for Saturday, May 20) until next fall. Thanks to all who supported our bake sales this year, we were able to continue to fully fund our three Komera scholars (Olive, Solange, and Ruth) in their secondary and post-graduate education programs.

Members of the GFA Quiz Team competed at the Yale Fall Academic Tournament this past Saturday. The team consisting of John Selkowitz '18, Willem Schuddeboom '19, Win Courtemanche '20, Quentin Conopask '20, and Karsten Rynearson '22 tied for fourth place out of 24 teams, also qualifying for one of the National Quiz Bowl competitions held next spring.
World Perspectives Program News

The World Perspectives Program is offering two new student travel opportunities. In the spring, students can learn about ecology and conservation in Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique, and this summer they can travel to the Andorran Pyrenees to study the effects of climate change.
