Horizons at GFA
Horizons at GFA helps underserved Bridgeport public school students improve their educational outcomes by providing academic instruction, enrichment opportunities, mentoring, and educational guidance in a nuturing community of dedicated professionals.
In 2000, Horizons at GFA welcomed 26 kindergarten and 1st grade students onto campus for its inaugural six-week summer session. Over the past 14 years, with the strong support of the GFA community, Horizons at GFA has grown into a year-round preK - 12 program serving over 200 Bridgeport students. The program successfully closes the achievement gap, and Horizons students are graduating from high school and attending college at rates nearly twice that of their Bridgeport peers.
Involvement in GFA’s Horizons program is a fulfilling and rewarding way to make a difference in the lives of low-income students in our neighboring community of Bridgeport. Each child enrolled in our program has a unique and special story. Some of those stories are heartbreaking, others inspiring. Many of our students are impacted daily by economic difficulties, language and cultural barriers, family dislocation, or any combination of these.
