GFA's Executive Chef, Dan Hallama, harvesting vegetables from our Organic Garden, to use in school lunches.
|
We Are What We Eat! was the topic of January's Parents' Association Meeting. There was a lively and informative discussion of food, nutrition and the many progressive and innovative practices GFA has implemented to provide healthy, safe and sustainable dining choices. On hand were members of GFA's Food Committee, representatives from Flik Independent, our food service provider, a science teacher who talked about how our organic garden is incorporated into the curriculum, and Executive Chef Dan Hallama. There were samples of humus, dips, dressings and pesto from GFA's kitchen, homemade whole grain sweet potato muffins, and delicious dark chocolate covered seeds complete with recipes. Chef Dan answered questions about where GFA's food is sourced and how it's prepared, and Flik described the wealth of resources on their website. Parents answered questions from personal experience and exchanged information about healthy snacks, food practices to embrace and avoid, and trusted experts in the field of nutrition and food preparation.
