Highlights from Denes Classic & Pack the House
GFA enjoyed a weekend of basketball starting with the Denes Classic on Friday, January 6th. At 4pm, young alumni took on the boys varsity team and won by one point, 47-46. Then the faculty played the senior class. Faculty won the game 42-36, but seniors won the prize for taking to the court in the most outrageous costumes. Finally, faculty played the older alumni, beating them 48-45.

On Saturday, January 7th, GFA fans were back in the Coyle Gym to host a Pack the House event at 6 pm, raising money for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Close to 500 people came to watch the game between rivals GFA and Brunswick. GFA held a four point lead at the break, but really accelerated in the second half to win 51-40.

On hand was Logan Smalley, the man who dreamed up the idea of documenting a trip with a friend with muscular dystrophy. The result was an award-winning movie, Darius Goes West. The film's star, Darius Weems, has visited GFA to talk about the disease that has left him in a wheelchair and taken the life of his older brother. GFA students decided to have proceeds from Saturday's Pack the House go to Darius's organization, and the initial count says GFA raised almost $3,000 from the event.
