Athletes of the Week
This honor recognizes one male and one female athlete, who have displayed outstanding performance, leadership, and sportsmanship in his or her particular sport.  Athletes are nominated by their team coach and are selected on a weekly basis.  Nominations are open to all JV, Varsity, and 3rds teams.

Athletes of the Week for this week are.......

Ryan Friend - Varsity Boys Soccer
Junior Goalkeeper Ryan Friend has been a consistent wall in net for the GFA Dragons. In the team's contest with South Kent, Ryan made an impressive 12 saves. He then followed up that performance saving 10 of the 14 shots he faced in the team's 1-1 tie with Hamden Hall. When asked to describe Ryan, Head Coach Chris Mira's response was easy, "Ryan welcomes the physical, mental, and emotional challenges associated with goalkeeping. His enthusiasm and intensity have been instrumental to his development. His technique is improving which enhances his athletic ability, and learning from experience will allow him to continue to grow." Friend's ability will be tested this week as the Varsity Boys Team faces 3 league opponents in St. Luke's, Rye Country Day School, and King.

Jenny Ross - Varsity Field Hockey
Just a freshman, Jenny Ross has already made her presence felt as the Varsity Field Hockey starting goalie. Over the course of the team's last 5 games, Ross has recorded a staggering 55 saves, as well as a stunning stroke save in the team's contest with Miss Porters. "She has been a strong contributor in each game, including a season high 20 saves against Taft," noted Head Coach Natalie Gagnon. "Combined with the young age of most of our defensive squad, I am excited about the future of GFA Field Hockey over the next four years." Ross will again be tested this week as the Lady Dragons face league opponents St. Luke's and King.
