"It was exciting to be near the top in a group of large New England schools and to travel outside our home waters. Our team executed good boat handling skills and aggressive maneuvers, and they made good tactical decisions on the racecourse. They showed leadership, responsibility and sportsmanship, representing GFA well."

Spring 2012 will be the fifth season for GFA's Sailing Team, the Water Dragons. 2011 was a year of rebuilding after many team members graduated in 2010. The remaining sailors bonded as a team and supported one another as they learned a lot about team racing and boat handling. The Water Dragons still netted a fourth in the Greenwich Gold Cup and a sixth in the Fairfield cup. We hope 2012 will bring back the glory of 2010, when the Water Dragons finished 2nd overall in the Fairfield County League and 15th out of the 70 high schools competing in the New England Scholastic Sailing Association. One highlight of GFA's extraordinary 2010 sailing season was winning the CT State Championships at New London's Coast Guard Academy.
We hope that alumni who sail or remember the old GFA Sailing Club days will support the team by helping them purchase a much-needed fourth 420 for the coming season.
