Graduation of the Class of 2011
Commencement 2011

On Thursday, June 9, the seventy-one newly minted GFA alumni of the Class of 2011 processed and recessed on the front lawn. Salutatorian Emma Frank '11 and Valedictorian Allison Kruk '11 addressed their classmates, reminding them of the strong academic foundation they had received at GFA and their "intrinsic humanitarian responsibility" to effect positive change in the world. Author and foreign correspondent Stephen Kinzer delivered remarks to the graduates, urging them not to close themselves in "in the comfortable world that is available to you" and keep themselves "open to the possibilities of change" while maintaining a sense of humility and the ability to learn from and listen to others.

Fields Reconfigured and Upgraded
GFA Installs New "Green" Turf Field

Construction crews returned to the fields of GFA this summer. Last summer, eight tennis courts, field #5 and a dedicated baseball diamond were completed. Now, GFA's first turf field has been installed and other fields have been reconfigured and expanded to full regulation size. New scoreboards will complement the newly upgraded fields. Did you know...
...that GFA is the first school in Connecticut to install a synthetic turf field that uses Thermoplastic Elastomer infill (TPE)? GFA elected to use TPE instead of traditional crumb-rubber turf field infill because it is healthier and more eco-friendly.
