Alumnae Return with Special Guest to Kick Off Bike-a-thon Fundraising Efforts
Alums return with special guest to kick off MS bike-a-thon

Over the past 25 years, the annual GFA Middle School bike-a-thon has raised over $210,000 for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. Michelle Cole and Amanda Glendinning of the class of 2001 presented to the Middle School on Thursday, April 21 with a special guest. Jasmin, age 17, suffers from Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP), an extremely rare disease of the connective tissue. When several members of the class of 2001 learned about the disease in AP Biology during their senior year, they decided to take action. Their subsequent inquiries and fundraising efforts connected them with Jasmin, a Connecticut resident, who was only six years old at the time. Jasmin has attended The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for many years and delivered a heartfelt speech to the Middle School about the important role the camp plays in the lives of children with serious illnesses. Michael Hund, a representative of the camp, explained that GFA Middle Schoolers were some of the organization's first benefactors, having started fundraising with the inuagural bike-a-thon in 1986, two years before the camp was even officially incorporated in 1988.
