At GFA, it is cool to be smart. It's the norm to be excited about collaborating in the classroom, pursuing passions through independent studies or taking advantage of study programs abroad, at sea or in the mountains. It is a journey of intellectual awakening and discovery, aided all along the way by faculty members. We graduate young men and women who push themselves to think critically and deeply about the issues of our times.
For faculty, teaching in an independent school is a choice--a calling--where deep expertise, passion for one's subject and a love of working with young people walk hand in hand. At GFA, teachers expect to be involved in student life outside the classroom. They have repeated one-on-one contact with students in the halls, on the playing fields and in extra-curricular activities. Each student is "known" not only by his or her peers, but also by immediate teachers, advisers, grade deans and division heads--by the whole adult world of the school.
GFA has small classes, which allows the school community to place an emphasis on character and accountability, fully exploring codes of conduct, civility and honor. Visitors always comment on our lockers without locks and on the expectation of honesty from each person in the community. When a violation of the trust occurs, teachers and students work through the issue until they can agree on an appropriate response.
This school environment instills a strong academic foundation, good habits of mind and life-long learning in our students. We are proud of our graduates who make our motto--Quisque Pro Omnibus, Each for All--an enduring part of their lives.
We welcome your interest in our school, and invite you to visit our campus and classrooms for a closer look.
Kind regards,

Janet Hartwell
