GFA Loses Close One
In a game where both teams struggled from the field, Greens Farms Academy found themselves at the wrong end of the scoreboard in a 35-30 loss to York Prep out of New York City. GFA started out fairly strong with captains Bridgette Foster and Miranda Princi, as well as junior Jessica Liu, all connecting from the outside. Junior captain Meighan Grady was able to contain York's best player in the first sixteen minutes, which led to turnovers in favor of GFA. The game was tied at 18 as the first half came to a close.
Both teams gave up chances to their opponent, but York Prep did a better job at boxing out and finishing when it counted. They took a five point lead with three minutes to go. Although GFA was not ready to give up and did score again from under the basket, it was not enough. York came back down and put two more in, which gave the game its final 35-30 score. GFA was led offensively by Foster and Grady, who scored 9 and 8 points respectively. Princi added 4, while freshman Claire Comey had 3. Liu, sophomore Hilary Shannon and freshman Lily Canaan all chipped in two.
GFA was play tomorrow against Dwight School at 1:00. |

GFA Downed by Dwight In the consolation game of the John Sabia Tournament, played at Rye Country Day School, Greens Farms Academy was matched up against The Dwight School. While the team played tough defense throughout the game, Dwight was armed with players who could shoot from the outside, as well as big bodies underneath to finish any missed shots. Junior captain Meighan Grady led the way for the Lady Dragons with 7 points, while freshman Lily Canaan finished the game with five. Grady was also matched up with Dwight's strongest player for much of the game and contained her to only five points in the second period. Freshmen Campbell Goldsmith (1 point) and Olivia Lennon also did a nice job on the defensive end, making the opponent pick up their dribble and get stuck up top. Sophomore Caroline Kruk (1 point) returned from injury today for GFA and did a nice job under the basket, grabbing numerous rebounds. Senior captain Bridgette Foster, junior captain Miranda Princi, sophomore Hilary Shannon and freshman Claire Comey all chipped in with 2 points.

Greens Farms Academy traveled to King today for both team's first FAA match-up. The extended man-to-man defense the Vikings showed proved to be an early set-back for the Lady Dragons and one they could not bounce back from. Junior captain Meighan Grady (Darien) led the way, as she played up top on the defense and scored six points in the first half. Freshman Campbell Goldsmith (Darien) also played tough defense, grabbing numerous rebounds and putting in four of her own. Other offensive contributers included Lily Canaan (New Canaan), Asya Evans (Stratford), Claire Comey (Westport) and Hilary Shannon (Redding), all who scored two points. Lisa Johnson (Stratford) and Bridgette Foster (Southpot) both made one from the line. Junior captain Miranda Princi (Darien), freshman Olivia Lennon (Southport) and sophomore Caroline Kruk (Easton) all played tough defense and caused turnovers during the second half.

GFA Comes Away with Big Win Over Rival St. Luke's:
After a hard loss to The Storm just a week earlier, the Greens Farms Academy Lady Dragons came out hungry for revenge and walked away with a well-deserved 39-34 win. The defensive intensity and pressure that GFA showed was the difference in today's match-up. Senior captain Bridgette Foster (7 points) and sophomore Caroline (2 points) were all over the defensive end, stepping in to passing lanes and deflecting balls. Junior captain Meighan Grady (6 points) spearheaded the defense and provided offensive consistency for the entire thirty-two minutes.
The first half proved to be a back-and-forth game with the two teams exchanging buckets. Sophomore Hilary Shannon provided a spark of the bench with 6 points and 3 steals, while Lily Canaan played big underneath the basket, attacking The Storm.
After taking a two point lead in to halftime, GFA set goals for the team's next sixteen minutes. Greens Farms reached the goals of not giving up second chance points and out-rebounding the opposition, which allowed their lead to extend to eight with nine minutes left in the game; however, St. Luke's wasn't ready to quit as they came with two quick baskets. Freshman Campbell Goldsmith (6 points) was up for the challenge The Storm brought and nailed her second three-pointer of the game, which brought the momentum back in favor of GFA.
The last three minutes proved to be scrappy, but freshman Lisa Johnson (6 points) stayed strong, grabbing rebounds under the basket and hitting two big free throws down the stretch, which sealed the win for GFA.
The Lady Dragons will be back in action on Tuesday, January 17th, as they take on Montfort Academy at home at 4:00. |

GFA Wins Second in a Row The Greens Farms Academy Lady Dragons won their second game in as many tries, beating Montfort Academy 58-20 at home. Coming out with intense defensive pressure was what made GFA the victor in this game. Applying pressure early resulted in numerous steals and easy baskets for GFA, as they took a 20 point lead in to halftime. Junior captain Meighan Grady attacked the basket throughout the first sixteen minutes, earning nine points, including an "and one" basket. Sophomore Caroline Kruk and freshman Lisa Johnson played a strong inside-out game, both putting in three baskets in the first half. Johnson went on to put in three more in the second half, with Kruk adding another two.
In the second half, junior Asya Evans was a spark off the bench, diving on the floor for loose balls and distributing the ball to her teammates. Evans added nine points, including a three from the top of the key and two baskets off offensive rebounds. Senior captain Bridgette Foster (7 points) continued to play her game by hitting shots from the outside and grabbing rebounds.
Freshmen Olivia Lennon, Campbell Goldsmith (3 points), Lily Canaan (2 points) and Claire Comey (2 points) all played significant minutes for GFA, adding depth to the lineup and a strong desire to steal the ball. Greens Farms is Downed by Masters
GFA took on Masters at home, where they fought until the end, but were ultimately defeated. The Lady Dragons played a close first half with Masters, as senior captain Bridgette Foster (5 points) started the scoring off with a quick three followed by junior captain Miranda Princi (4 points) hitting a nice shot from right inside the key. Junior captain Meighan Grady (2 points) played tough defense on Masters' best player, holding her to just 8 points in the first half.
Throughout the following sixteen minutes, GFA continued to play hard, but were ultimately plagued by turnovers, which led to fast breaks for Masters. Freshman Lily Canaan scored a team-high 7 points for Greens Farms, while fellow freshman, Olivia Lennon, hit a beautiful shot from right inside the arc and grabbed a steal by the end of the game.

After a tough loss the night before, the Lady Dragons came back ready to play against New England opponent Cheshire Academy. Although the team fell behind 10-1 early on, GFA was able to bounce back and maintain composure for the majority of the remainder of the game. Junior captain Meighan Grady led the way both offensively and defensively, as she spearheaded the defense and also put in 7 points on offense. She was helped out on the scoring end by freshman Lily Canaan who added 6 points, as well as tough defense under the basket on a strong post player from Cheshire. Freshman Lisa Johnson and sophomore Caroline Kruk also played "big" down low for GFA, as junior captain Miranda Princi and freshman Campbell Goldsmith controlled the ball for the Lady Dragons.
Although the team ended the game on the losing end of a 41-25 tally, GFA continues to make strides in the right direction. They will have another tough week coming up as they travel to both Christian Heritage and Holy Child and then finish the week off at home, on Friday, against The Harvey School. |

Greens Farms Loses Hard Fought Battle:
In what proved to be a battle to the end, Greens Farms Academy took on Christian Heritage in Trumbull. GFA started the game with hot shooting, including a three pointer from both senior captain Bridgette Foster (7 points) and junior captain Meighan Grady. With each made basket, the Lady Dragons jumped in to a full 1-2-2 press, which allowed them to slow down the opponent and also grab a few quick steals. When about six minutes had run off the clock, Christian Heritage finally put in their star point guard, which provided an additional hurdle for GFA; however, the team was up for the challenge as Grady matched up with the PG and junior captain Miranda Princi, along with Foster, played extreme help defense. This allowed for GFA to go in to half-time with a one point lead.
Entering in to the second half, Greens Farms' plan was to double the opposing point guard and big player whenever either had the ball. Freshmen Lisa Johnson (10 points) and Lily Canaan (11 points), along with sophomore Caroline Kruk (5 points) did a great job underneath the basket, holding the opposing team's "go-to" big player only 2 second-half points. Grady was relentless on defending the ball, making each shot for their PG contested. On the offensive end, Princi was able to find Johnson and Canaan underneath the basket for some easy lay-ups and Grady continued to go strong to basket, making her the team's high-scorer with 20 points.
With 23 seconds left to go in the game, GFA was down two points with the ball under their own basket. They ran a simple in-bounds play which freed up Johnson, who tied the game, sending both teams in to their first OT period. Although GFA was able to get a quick 4 point lead in that period, Christian Heritage fought back, and both teams remained tied at the end of four minutes. In the second overtime, Christian Heritage was able to gain some fast breaks against GFA, but again, Grady went to the basket scoring her 16th and 17th point and cutting the lead to 3. GFA was forced to foul and faced a 5 point deficit with just seconds to go. Although Grady hit her second three of the game before the final buzzer expired, GFA found itself on the wrong end of the scoreboard, as the game ended 58-56.
GFA will take many positive aspects from this game with them on Wednesday, as they travel to FAA opponent, Holy Child. |

Although GFA fell behind early, the team continued to play hard and played tough defense for the full thirty-two minutes. Junior captain Meighan Grady (8 points) led the way offensively for Greens Farms with some nice drives and steals that led to fast breaks. Junior Asya Evans also had a nice offensive game putting in 7 points - all from the outside. Senior captain Bridgette Foster added an additional 5 points, as well as very strong boxing out underneath the basket.

GFA Wins Against Harvey:
Greens Farms made the trip down to Harvey for the team's second match-up of the season. GFA again came away victorious, winning 45-39, behind freshman Lisa Johnson's 10-point performance and an additional nine points put in by junior captain Meighan Grady.
Although the team made a few questionable decisions during the game, the defensive pressure that GFA applied was more than enough to hinder any offensive flow from developing by Harvey. Freshman Olivia Lennon (2 points), sophomore Caroline Kruk (6 points) and freshman Lily Canaan (2 points) did a great job of anticipating and stepping in to the passing lane.
Junior captain Miranda Princi and senior captain Bridgette Foster hit some nice shots from the outside, scoring four and six respectively, and making the Harvey defense step out. Junior Jessica Liu also put in a nice shot from behind the arc, as well as Freshman Claire Comey who grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in. Junior Asya Evans finished the scoring off with 1 point, making every player on the roster finding the bottom of the net.

GFA Loses Close One to Ethel Walker:
After a long bus ride up to Simsbury, GFA met NEPSAC opponent, Ethel Walker. Although GFA proved they were the better team in the second half of play, the Lady Dragons had dug themselves a 10-point hole in the first half that proved to be the difference in the game.
Trailing 22-12 entering in to the second half, GFA decided they were not going to go away easily and began playing up-tempo defense, which is what they are accustomed to. GFA fought all the way back to take a 1-point lead with less than four minutes to play; however, Ethel Walker, with the help of their crowd, took back the momentum with some outside shots and a steal. Both teams played until the final seconds ticked of the clock, but the scoreboard ended up in favor of Ethel Walker, 38-35.
Greens Farms was led offensively by junior captain Meighan Grady with 13 points, along with senior captain Bridgette Foster who put in 6.
With the final week of the regular season quickly approaching, GFA will match up with Hamden Hall, Hopkins and Watkinson. |

GFA is Downed by Hamden Hall:
GFA took on the Hornets from Hamden Hall today in an FAA match-up, but eventually lost 50-26. Junior captain Meighan Grady and freshman Lily Canaan put in eight apiece for the Dragons, with freshman Lisa Johnson putting in an additional four.
Although the first half proved to be a tough battle for GFA, the team continued to fight and stepped up on the defensive end in the second period, showing the Hornets an array of defenses, while causing confusion. Freshman Claire Comey played big underneath with Johnson and Canaan, while senior captain Bridgette Foster (2 points) and junior captain Miranda Princi played tough defense up top with juniors Asya Evans (2 points) and Jessica Liu (2 points). Freshman Olivia Lennon also recorded a solid game, as she played strong defense and fed the ball inside on the offense.
GFA will take on Hopkins on Thursday February 16th at 4:30pm in the team's Senior Night. |

GFA Loses to Hopkins: Greens Farms Academy played with a lot of emotion today, as the team honored senior captain Bridgette Foster before the game. Foster has been a four-year basketball player and left everything she had on the floor this evening. Going 7 for 8 from the line resulted in a career best performance from the stripe and she added an additional two buckets during the game, giving her a total of 11 points. Freshman Lisa Johnson also came ready to play, dumping in twelve points and grabbing numerous rebounds. She was a forced to be reckoned with on both ends of the floor, as she changed many of Hopkins' shots and their offensive flow. Junior captain Meighan Grady put in an additional nine points for her team and defended the opposition's best player.
GFA will take on Watkinson in their final game of the season on Saturday, February 18th at 1:00pm on their home floor. |
