Theatre

A highlight from this year's Winter Theatre Showcase, the video to the right is one example of a play written, directed, and presented by students. Gender Roles was written by Dorothy Vickery directed by Kelly Kern, both seniors at GFA.

Additional videos from this year's production can be seen below.

Theatrical training at GFA begins in Middle School, offering students exposure to basic elements of theatrical storytelling, including simple improvisational techniques, the rudiments of stage vocabulary both onstage and backstage, and experience in learning the teamwork necessary to tell a story on stage. The Upper School Theatre program takes a more comprehensive look at the world of theatre, with an emphasis on taking basic acting skills and turning them into techniques that will be useful on stage. Course offerings in vocal training, basic theatre movement (including stage combat), scene work and reading a wide range of literature of the theatre are keystones of the program.

Theatre Slideshow

In the extra curricular realm an improvisation group called THE RED AND BLOOPERS is open to all students in the Upper School and all students may also audition for the Fall Play, Spring Musical and GFA Winter Theatre Showcase, which is student written, driven and directed. Two short plays from the Showcase received prestigious awards in High School writing contests (2007, 2008). Recent Upper School mainstage productions include Harvey, Ah, Wilderness!, Tartuffe, The Importance of Being Earnest, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Stage Door, Broadway-style musicals Damn Yankees, Working, The Who's Tommy, The Boy Friend, Bye, Bye, Birdie, The Music Man and Urinetown.
