The award winning a cappella groups, the Beachside Express and the Harbor Blues, along with the Concert Choir, are among the oldest performing groups at GFA. The Beachside Express, the boys’ group, was founded in 1987. The Harbor Blues, the girls’ group, was founded in 1989. Both singing groups are extra curricular, however, and students must be enrolled in Concert Choir or Chamber Choir classes in order to audition. The auditions for both groups are in the fall and each group has between 12 and 16 singers. Rehearsals are Monday and Thursday evenings. Both groups perform at a variety of school functions as well as private events outside of the school community. The camaraderie and discipline learned while performing with these groups stays with our students for years, and a highlight for many alumni is coming back to GFA and getting to sing a number with the current "Beachers and Blues". |
