6-12 slideshow

When applying to an independent school, it is important to determine if the school is a "good fit" for your child and your family. The application process at GFA provides parents with the opportunity to tour the school, share information about their child and meet with a member of the Admission Office. Click here for a brief admission checklist.  The application process is as follows:

Application Deadlines

  • Completed 6-12 applications due January 13, 2012

  • Parent/Student Appointment - mid-September to mid-January
    • Please call (203) 256-7514 to schedule a parent/student interview and campus tour.
    • The parents and student will have independent interviews with the Head of Middle School Admission or Head of Upper School Admission.
    • Please allow at least one hour and thirty minutes for the appointment if you are new to the School. If you are the parent of a current GFA student or the parent of a child whose file has been reactivated, please call the Admission Office for further information regarding the parent/student interview.
  • Application for Admission- Part I  - Due January 13, 2012
    • The Application for Admission must be completed and returned to the Admission Office accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of $75 (where applicable). Checks should be made payable to Greens Farms Academy. Fee is waived if applying for Financial Aid. Applicants who apply online, will be able to check the status of their application at any time. The Application for Admission- Part 1 must be submitted prior to the Student Visit Day.
  • Parent Statement - Due January 13, 2012
    • The Parent Statement allows you to share information about your child and your family so that we can gain some insight into your child's personality and your family's educational  priorities.
  • Student Statement - Due January 13, 2012
    • The Student Statement allows your child to share information about themselves, their interests, and goals.
  • Graded Writing Sample - Due January 13, 2012
    • Please submit a copy or original graded English or History Writing Sample.
  • Teacher Recommendation, Transcript, and Transcript Release Form - Submit to current school after November 1st - Due January 13, 2012
    • Please have your child's current English and Math teachers fill out the Teacher Recommendation Forms and mail directly to GFA. We ask that the Teacher Recommendation form be distributed to the student’s current teachers after November 1st to allow the teacher to get to know your child during the Fall.
    • After November 1st, students should deliver their Transcript Release form and the GFA return envelope to the appropriate administrator at their current school. This authorizes the school to send GFA official copies of current grades, comments, and any standardized test scores.
  • Testing-  Results are due to GFA by January 13, 2012
    • Students take a separately administered standardized test, the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam). GFA offers two test dates (Dec. 4th and Jan. 7th) for the ISEE exam in the late fall and early winter, or it may also be taken at other schools. Information about registering for this exam can be found at www.iseetest.org.
    • SSAT results may be accepted in lieu of ISEE test results, although GFA prefers the ISEE exam.
  • Student Visit (Shadow Day) - November to January
    • Please call (203) 256-7514 to schedule your child's visit.
    • Student visits give applicants a chance to experience the GFA culture firsthand. We schedule visits on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:45am-3pm.
    • Visiting students may want to wear attire similar to our dress code, but this is not necessary. Boys and girls in Grades 6-12 wear khaki or corduroy pants (no jeans) and a collared shirt. Girls also wear the GFA school kilt, and visitors are welcome to wear a skirt or dress of their own choosing.
    • Lunch is provided for all students visiting the Middle and Upper Schools. Your child should also bring a book and a peanut free snack on the day of his/her visit. Middle School students should bring gym clothes (shorts, t-shirt, and sneakers). Parents should check in at the front reception area and drop off and pick up their child in the Admission waiting room.
  • Financial Aid Application  - Due January 13, 2012
    • Applications for Financial Aid will be distributed at the December Financial Aid workshop.  For further information, please refer to the GFA Financial Aid page.
