Interactive Whiteboards
The Lower School was the fortunate recipient of the first interactive whiteboards installed at Greens Farms Academy. These devices, which look like a typical classroom whiteboard, are connected to a laptop computer. The teacher and students can then manipulate objects on the board using their hands or styli specifically for use with the board. The interactive whiteboard essentially becomes a large computer, with the use able to interact with the computer on a large, projected surface. The interactive whiteboard can be used to present a website or video to a class. Additionally, the interactive whiteboard allows students to become active participants in the lesson as they are able to physically interact with the projected multimedia and use the whiteboard as a presentation tool. The interactive whiteboard breaks down the traditional geography of the classroom, with the teacher at the front of the room. Students become teachers as they use the interactive whiteboards to present their work and demonstrate their understanding of the lesson.
Keyboarding
Starting in third grade students at Greens Farms Academy are instructed in proper keyboarding techniques and practices. Students are taught proper ergonomics and posture to prevent repetitive stress injuries. They are offered a keyboarding application on the computers that allows them to practice at school and at home. Students can track their progress as they become proficient and efficient at keyboarding.
Email
Fifth grade Greens Farms Academy students are provided access to the school's email system. These students use an email forum to hand in homework assignments, ask for clarification on a particular project, and to interact with their teachers and classmates. Students who complete assignments at home can easily email their teachers their work. Students are taught proper email etiquette and Internet safety.
