Teaching at Greens Farms Academy
Spanning the grades from K-12, Greens Farms Academy seeks various kinds of teachers and teaching methods, but at all levels we look for teachers who have deep expertise in their disciplines and who are:
- Intellectually stimulating
- Creative and academically demanding in the classroom
- Comfortable with the integration of technology into the teaching process
- Devoted to the love of learning and to instilling life-long habits of learning in students
We are committed to the total child, and look for teachers who understand their responsibilities well beyond their disciplines and the walls of their classrooms. In the Middle and Upper Schools, we ask each teacher to serve as an advisor to a small group of students, to be an enthusiastic sponsor of student clubs and activities, to coach one or more seasons if possible (extra compensation for this), and to support students by attending arts performances, sports events and class trips. In our Lower School we seek teachers who are well-grounded in child development and who can adapt easily to the broad range of children's learning styles. We look for candidates who share our belief in the moral and educational value of human diversity, and who represent diverse ethnic, racial or cultural backgrounds themselves.
We want our teachers and administrators to pursue opportunities for professional growth, be open to new ideas and assume leadership roles in the professional growth of colleagues nationwide. GFA budgets a sizable fund annually in support of this.
Because we reside in an affluent suburban community, we are all the more conscious of bringing other worlds to our students. We encourage our teachers to think and teach globally, using the vast resources of nearby cities, and to keep our students aware of their circumstances as compared with others nationally and internationally. We know we are privileged to be at a place like GFA, and along with privilege comes responsibility.
GFA supports a culture of respect and generosity among our faculty and students. People go the extra mile for each other, which makes it a magnetic place to work. Undoubtedly, the longevity of so many of our employees is in part attributable to this.
Finally, because we are a school devoted to encouraging human growth, we are committed to the healthy growth of the institution as well. Candidates for teaching at GFA should find excitement working collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines to create and improve the programs and policies of the school. The healthiest collaboration is based on candor, respectful disagreement, the raising and challenging of ideas, and critical self-evaluation. With this open dialogue we commit to making GFA the finest possible institution for all of its constituents.
GFA welcomes applications without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin.
